Fighting for Bodily Autonomy
Bodily autonomy is a fundamental right, yet millions of women and gender expansive people worldwide donโt feel safe enough to assert theirs. Thatโs why Marcella is joining forces with the Urgent Action Fund for Feminist Activism (UAF) to support feminists on the frontlines fighting to defend this right everywhere.ย
UAF Provides Material Support When Activists Need it Most
For over 25 years, UAF has funded feminist activism worldwide through providing rapid response grants to women, trans and non-binary activists on the frontlines. Their Security Grants provide immediate resources in moments of need, covering relocation for safety, legal fees after protests, digital security tools, or even spaces for healing and care. Their Opportunity Grants fuel advocacy, from influencing policy to shifting public discourse.
In 2024 alone, UAF awarded over $6.6 million in grants across 37 countries and $1.4 million in grants in the U.S. 77% of UAF grants were rapid-response Security Grants dedicated to keeping activists safe in high-risk conditions, underscoring both the danger activists faced last year and the urgent need for their protection.
This work has life-changing impact: UAF recently helped a trans organizer of color hire security after violent threats, supported a non-binary asylum-seeker and activist in France with mental health care and living costs, and provided safe housing for a feminist activist in Tajikistan facing violence at home because of her advocacy.
These are just a few examples of the countless ways UAF stands behind activists leading movements for racial justice, reproductive freedom, LGBTQI+ equity, immigrant rights, climate justice, and more, ensuring they have the safety and resources to keep pushing for change.
