Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Martha Luna, I was born in Caracas, Venezuela and raised in this beautiful place I call home for over 30 years: New York City. I consider myself a trendsetter in the fashion world. My multicultural platform has brought many opportunities to share my story in fashion, translating to my becoming a fashion designer and prominent celebrity stylist, as well as an eye-catching red-carpet host and model. I'm also impassioned by giving back to my community as the founder of a non-profit, the "Season of Giving" Foundation.
Styling celebrities, running "The Season of Giving" Foundation, Fashion content creator and designing your own pieces - how do you do it all and what makes it possible to achieve all you have done so far?
I’m very passionate about each one of my dreams and God gives me strength to achieve each of them. I have a lot of faith and believe strongly in my own abilities. I've learned to balance my schedule and dedicate time to my celebrity clients, social media platforms and daily events, to my charitable endeavors, even setting time to create this beautiful capsule. As a girl who had many Big Dreams growing up as an immigrant, I show up for myself everyday, that's what truly keeps me going.
What is it like to see the fashion industry from both behind the scenes and the front end, from Celebrity Styling to being a Fashion Public Figure Yourself?
It’s truly beautiful to experience both. Being a celebrity stylist is harder work. I give 110% of myself for my clients, editorials, red carpets or tv sets. Behind the scenes, there's emailing showrooms, shopping, moodboards, pulls and returns, consulting with the client to seeing the finished look but, after all the hard work and dedication, it’s so satisfying making someone happy with what they are wearing at an event. As a public fashion figure, it’s about being fabulous, which is so fun. I dress up, I’m just in my most authentic self at red carpet premieres, I smile, I pose, network, attend great events and feel so grateful at all times because I know what it takes to complete a look or an assignment for a red carpet or editorial. But I truly love both. Each teaches you in a different way and it keeps me humble at all times.
Does your heritage as a Venezuelan-American impact your style and creative work?
For sure, but my being in New York for over 30 years of my life also has a big impact on my work. I have so much love and passion for fashion in this city that never sleeps – there’s nothing you can’t do...attending fabulous events, red carpet premieres, galas, fashion runway shows, having a cosmopolitan with my friends at the newest restaurant...I find inspiration all over New York City.
"Education is life. You begin at birth and it never actually stops until you die."
What does education mean to you?
Education is life. You begin at birth and it never actually stops until you die. And it is how you use everything you learn that shapes you and determines whatever you want from life along the way. Education to me is a process of teaching, training and learning, especially in school, to improve knowledge and develop skills. It empowers me and expands my creativity.
How can Marcella further align our efforts towards positively shaping the fashion industry?
Fashion for me has to have a purpose, this is something I always say. I love the many hats I wear and have been given in this industry but I also created the "Season of Giving" Foundation to give back in different areas with kindness. One of the things I noticed when I received my very 1st Marcella tote bag was the mission of the brand and I immediately fell in love because not only did I love my tote and the amazing European quality of products but it made me smile and I felt connected seeing that even 1 purchase made a difference in the lives of young girls. Gratitude is one of my daily thoughts. I don't have to give a lot to someone who may have less – every little effort makes a difference. From humanitarian partnerships, fashion for peace, diversity and inclusivity shaping the fashion industry, education and awareness campaigns.
What is your favorite piece from your Marcella Capsule?
I would love to choose one favorite piece but the truth is that every piece in my Capsule is part of Marcella's SS24 SOHO collection and SOHO is my favorite place in the city, where I most find my weekly inspo. Each little corner from Spring St., to Prince, to Greene, to Mercer are all unique. Each piece in the Capsule is my favorite in its own unique way – as a true fashionista shooting each look in Soho meant so much to me!
