Celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) is a celebration of the continued fight for equality, yes, but also as a way to celebrate barrier-breaking women in our lives. This very philosophy is central to Marcella - our efforts have always strived to empower women and girls around the globe. The theme of this year’s IWD is none other than Inspiring Inclusion, a focus on uplifting the voices of underrepresented identities.

IWD serves as a way to celebrate the lives, stories, and triumphs of the women in our lives and those who came long before us. It is also a time to recognize the work still to be done - a time to come together to strengthen only further our fight for an equal world.

IWD's core principles are echoed throughout Marcella's four pillars; democratizing design, ethical production, sustainability and social impact. From the beginning, we at Marcella saw a need for designer minimalist fashion that fits into a woman’s day-to-day life - high quality fabrics and trims, affordable, and most of all, comfortable. Our pillar of democratizing design simplifies the shopping experience and leaves her feeling confident and comfortable. After the initial design phase, our garments are then handmade by our incredibly talented workforce that is predominantly female. Our ethical production model ensures that our employees enjoy a truly living wage, free healthcare, paid maternity leave, a 40-hour work week, 20 days paid vacation annually, among many other dramatically above average benefits for garment workers. 

In our long-standing efforts to keep our planet healthy and thriving for the next generation of female barrier-breakers, we are sustainability-minded through every stage of our production process via our timeless aesthetic, eco-friendly materials, and our "just-in-time" small batch production model. And, every time one of our garments is purchased, we contribute three school days to a girl in need through our partnership with global NGO, CAMFED. Our School Days Project is engineered to help girls have everything they need to stay in school - a key way to help them grow up to have financial independence and self-determined futures. At every step, Marcella commits to bettering the lives of women and girls - in both the present and future.

To Inspire Inclusion, we must acknowledge and honor the unique abilities and perspectives that women and girls bring to every conversation. Every new year gifts us this opportunity to take bigger steps in creating a better future for women and girls everywhere. In celebration of IWD today, we are excited to be DOUBLING our School Days offer - which means that, for every purchase made today, March 8, 2024, we will donate everything a girl needs to attend school for SIX days (not the regular THREE).
