9.23 School Days Project Update

Every early September brings with it a sense of anticipation–one season transitions to the next, the sun finds its new place in the sky, and we re-awaken to the excitement of a new school year ahead. Along with it, the Marcella School Days Project comes back into focus: our thoughts move once again to those children around the world dreaming of the lives they’ll have and the people they’ll become–animated by the inspiring hope they carry for the future.

The fourth pillar of Marcella's Design That Matters™ movement, Social Impact, encompasses what we call "The School Days Project." Three years ago, we launched the School Days Project to advance women and girls globally by committing our daily support to removing common barriers to girls' education in parts of the world where society often chooses not to invest in what so many of us consider a fundamental human right.

By contrast, when girls are provided with equal access to education, it's proven that they often work to uplift their communities, have the agency to make independent financial and career decisions, and can confidently move towards a successful, self-determined future. The gift of education is one of the most change-making ways to elevate girls, so many of whom ultimately become leaders and make dreams happen for themselves and for those around them.

As part of our School Days Project, we partner with CAMFED (The Campaign for Female Education), a powerhouse NGO that works to provide underprivileged girls globally with what they need to go to school each day–school fees, books, uniforms, menstrual products, transportation and more. With every Marcella design purchased, you help to provide not just one of these items but, as tailored by need, EVERYTHING an individual girl may need to attend school for three days.

It’s always been about more than fashion for Marcella. We're a company impassioned by the idea of employing fashion as a vehicle for change and by the mission of advancing women and girls through every aspect of that fashion–across the four pillars of Democratizing Design, Ethical Production, Sustainability and Social Impact. As it relates to the Social Impact piece, specifically, with the help of tens of thousands of our amazing customers, we've now supported over 755,721 school days for girls and young women globally since April 2021. (Doing the math, that translates to over 3750 years of school!).

As children the world over return to the classroom, we thank our Marcella community for your contributions in helping thousands of more girls access personal and societal progress. Here’s to 755,000 and counting and to a more equitable future for women everywhere!
