How to Clean Your Reusable Face Mask: Tips for Washing, Drying, and Ironing Your Cloth Masks

In order to get the best life out of your reusable face masks, it is important to take care of them the same way they take care of you!

Here are steps on how to best care for your new face masks:

Our Marcellamoda face masks are made of 100% cotton so they are prone to shrinkage if the proper steps aren’t followed. To ensure that your mask keeps its fit, follow these wash & dry instructions carefully:

Machine Washing

WASH: delicate cycle
DRY: Tumble dry on low heat (delicates)
IRON: low heat (mask only - not the filter!)

You may be wondering, “can I wash my face masks with the rest of my clothing?” The answer is yes! If you want to take extra precautions to preserve the quality of your masks, we suggest washing them in a mesh bag that you may already use for intimate garments.

Washing by hand

WASH: Hand wash in hot water (85 F or 30 C) using a mild detergent
DRY: Lay flat and allow to dry completely. Dry in direct sunlight if possible.

The filters included with your Marcellamoda mask are also reusable. These filters are 100% recycled polyester and are washable. Follow the same instructions above to ensure that you have a clean and fresh filter every time you use your mask!

How often do I wash my face mask?

It is important to use a freshly-washed mask and filter every time you leave the house to ensure your safety. The CDC recommends that “cloth face coverings should be washed after each use. It is important to always remove face coverings correctly and wash your hands after handling or touching a used face covering.” For those going back to work and for essential errands, make sure you have enough masks to complement your lifestyle!
