Celebrating International Day of the Girl 2025
It’s Monday morning. A young girl sits at her desk, opens her book and begins to write. In this moment, education is more than words on a page. It's a path to self-determination, a chance to dream bigger and the spark of progress that ripples across entire communities.
That is what we celebrate today, on this International Day of the Girl: the power and the fundamental right of girls around the world to learn, to live free from gender violence, and to have equal access to the tools they need to shape their own futures. It’s a day to honor the creativity and resilience girls bring in the face of inequality, and one we recognize with joy and purpose at Marcella each year (and every other day in between).
The theme of this year's Int'l. Day of the Girl emphasizes the profound impact of female leadership: "The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis." As they drive change in their own communities globally, girls are asking to be seen not just for the challenges they endure, but for the solutions they provide. At a time of shrinking governmental support, human rights organizations everywhere are correspondingly calling for dedicated funding that continues to meet girls' needs especially in times of crisis, encompassing health, mental well-being, education and beyond.
At Marcella, this mission is part of our DNA through our Design that Matters™ movement. Since 2021, through our partnership with CAMFED, our School Days Project has been the heart of our Social Impact pillar, resulting thus far in the support of over 1 million school days for girls in need. Our School Days Project ensures that with every order, you're funding three days of a girl’s education – including tuition, books, uniforms, transportation and all other essential supplies – to help her stay in school and continue leading change in her own life and beyond.
As such, International Day of the Girl is a revered day within Team Marcella. Today, like every day, we remain fiercely committed to celebrating and, as much as we possibly can help, elevating the human rights of women and girls around the world. Happy Holiday!
